ITINERARY
DAY 1 MEXICO-TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, SUMIDERO CANYON, SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS
Appointment at the Mexico City airport, to board a flight to the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
Reception at the Tuxtla Gutiérrez airport and transfer to the Grijalva river jetty to navigate and observe the geological wonder that gives its name to the Sumidero Canyon, which we will also observe diversity of flora and fauna. At the end, we will move to the Colonial City of San Cristóbal de Las Casas (2'300 MSNM), founded in 1528 by Captain Diego de Mazariegos, and declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Upon arrival, check-in at the chosen hotel and the rest of the day at leisure.
DAY 2 SAN CRISTOBAL, TONINA, AGUA AZUL, PALENQUE
Early in the morning, departure from the hotel with luggage in hand, heading for Palenque. En route we will visit the archaeological site of Tonina. The etymological meaning of this archaeological site is "Big Stone Houses", and that on a pyramidal structure that was mounted on the top of the mountain range, which is full of trees, winds through the north of the Ocosingo valley, makes it one of the places where the effects of power are manifested in a spectacular way.
We will continue our journey to Agua Azul, a set of waterfalls created by the currents of the Otulún, Shumuljá and Tulijá rivers, forming shallow canyons with vertical cliffs, where you can swim and enjoy the different areas. We will finish our tour, with the transfer to the city of Palenque. Check in at the hotel and rest.
DAY 3 ARCHAEOLOGICAL ZONE OF PALENQUE, MISOL HA, SAN CRISTOBAL
On this day we will visit the archaeological site of Palenque. This Mayan city stands out for its architectural and sculptural heritage; and where we can admire several buildings: The Palace, The Temple of the Foliated Cross, The Temple of the Sun and others. Then, we will continue to the Misol-Ha waterfalls, which, with their 30 meters high, and surrounded by high tropical jungle, make this a beautiful and refreshing place. At the end, transfer to the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas. Check in at the hotel and rest.
DAY 4 SAN CRISTÓBAL, INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES, TUXTLA AIRPORT
After breakfast, we will leave for the Indigenous Communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group; visiting Chamula first, to learn, and thus understand the fusion of contemporary traditions and ancient Mayan characteristics that identifies this place. Later, we will continue to Zinacantán, where we will visit the church and the house of a family cooperative, where we will be received with a regional drink and we will observe how the women work the backstrap loom from Pre-Columbian times. After seeing the samples of what they produce, they will offer us to come to their kitchen, where if we are lucky, they will invite us to try handmade tortillas. At the end, we will make the transfer from San Cristóbal de Las Casas to the Tuxtla Gutiérrez airport to take the return flight.
